I would like to thank to GOD as I have finished writing this report. I made this report for the completion one of our subject assignment, Field Trip report in English Literature Departement at STIBA-IEC Fatmawati.

This report entitled Comparative Study Report of English Literature Departement of Warmadewa University, Bali.

I also thank to all collaborative lecturers, especially Mr Leonard Sitohang as our lecturer who has guided us in finishing of writing this report, and also other students helping me to arrange this report.

C. THE HISTORY OF WARMADEWA UNIVERSITY

Warmadewa University or commonly abbreviated as Unwar is one of the universities in Denpasar, Bali. It is under supervision of the Private Higher Education Coordinator of Region VIII (Kopertis) and managed by Korpri Bali Foundation. The name of the university was proposed by the Governor of Bali at the time namely the late Prof. Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra to honor and commemorate a king of Bali before the reign of Majapahit, Sri Kesari Warmadewa.

Unwar was established on the basis of concern of the leaders in Bali in 1983 with the aim of improving the quality of higher education especially in Bali and Nusa Tenggara. It was established through several stages as reflected in the history of the establishment. At present, the Warmadewa University manages six faculties and 13 study programs with total students of 5,872 (in 2009) and total alumni of 20,339.

The vision of Warmadewa University is to make the institution as a center of higher education that produces high quality, eco-friendly and beneficial graduates for the nation. This is the basis for Warmadewa University to continuously improve the existing performances. One of them is the success to achieve the GOLD category in the accreditation of Tri Hita Karana Widya Nugraha 2010.

A. The idea of emergence period ( Nov 12, 1983 s / d May 30, 1984)

At the Regional Meeting of Bali KORPRI 12 th, 1983 in preparation KORPRI II National Conference in Jakarta, Chairman KORPRI Unud Unit (Drs. Putu Kuna Winaya) proposes to set up a program specifics KORPRI University. The envoy of KORPRI center allows the establishment of the University KORPRI in Bali.
The second National Conference result is discussed on the Raker KORPRI in Bali. KORPRI chairman of Bali Province (Drs. Worship Subhakti) and Chief of the KORPRI Unud (Drs. Putu Kuna Winaya) preparing the establishment of the University who is now a University KORPRI Warmadewa (Unwar) with affordable basic principles and quality. The establishment of KORPRI University (Unwar) gets support from Kopertis Region VIII. The first lecture was held on 17 September 1984, as well as birthday / Diesnatalis Warmadewa University.

B. University preparation period (June 1 - July 29, 1984)

Marathon meeting between KORPRI UNUD and the Chief of the sub-units Faculty (the Deans of Udayana University), whom are approved by KORPRI Unud’s Trustees who is also coordinator Kopertis VIII (Dr. Ida Bagus Oka) about the establishment proposal for the University KORPRI. The basic struggle principle of University KORPRI is “Affordable Cost, Guaranteed Quality".

From the KORPRI local government and agencies prepare the establishment of the Foundation of the establishment of entities listed in the deed of establishment of KORPRI Welfare Bali Province about the elections of the trustees’ institution, sets up facilities and permits for the establishment of the University.

C. Establishment and Determination University Rector and the Dean Period (July 30, - September 17, 1984)

Determination Stewardship Foundation, Badan Penggerak Akademik dan Pengarah Tenaga (BPA), and the Badan Perencanaan dan Penggalian Dana. (BP3D).
Reporting to Kopertis Region VIII that University KORPRI has been built with the name given by the Governor of Tk. I Bali (Prof. Dr. IB Mantra) which named “Warmadewa University” as the honor of Dynasty Warmadewa, King of Bali.

It means that Science, Technology, and the Arts, are devoted to the interests of Island and Nation development, in achieving happiness and prosperity of the Republic Indonesia based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.

Lectures

IMGP3110Proses applied learning at the University Warmadewa focus on students' understanding of the various theories and concepts as well as analyze it critically. While the curriculum, Unwar refers to the standards set by the Government, in addition to floating the local curriculum tailored to the vision and mission Unwar. Each lecturer is required to have good qualifications and are proud to contribute to achieve the vision and mission of Unwar in developing educational purposes. Lecturer power Unwar average educated S1, S2, and S3.

To optimize the academic development of students, faculty provide time guidance / assistance to students who need it. With a specific approach, students are expected to receive the benefits and drawbacks of natural causes. Thus, it can realize its potential in academics optimally and develop into self-reliant man.

When passed with has taken the burden of studies that have been set, then the next will be removed through further graduate level faculty for the University. Graduation ceremony held each semester (six months) once. Selanjtnya they are ready to jump real life squad is to actualize the knowledge and ability to build and improve the welfare of the community.

Faculty of Literature in Unwar is one of the faculty favorite in Bali. As part of the largest private universities in Bali, Warmadewa University was founded in 1984 under the auspices of the Bali Provincial KORPRI Welfare Foundation. Its strategic location is about 2 km from the village culture and the tourist area of Sanur beach, about 3 km from downtown Denpasar, and about 1 km from the center of Bali provincial government (civic center) Renon. The neighborhood around the campus such as Bank, ATM, Computer Rental, Call Centers, Internet Cafes, Copy, Stationary Store, boarding house, cafeteria / restaurant, a place of worship (church, mosque, temple), and others are very supportive for students comfort in completing the study. Besides the campus atmosphere is cool and shady, air-conditioned classrooms, a library, a reading room, a hot-spot facilities, there is also an extensive and safe parking facilities which is completed with means of sport and recreation, such as basketball courts, climbing wall, field volleyball, gym theater, marching band, self-defense, and others that will help eliminate boredom and channel their students talents in the fields of sports and art.

1. Performing Education and teaching and developing arts and culture and are associated with utilizing existing resources, as well as carrying out research and community service in accordance with the demands of college Tri Dharma.

Preparing students to become members of professional societies, qualified and independent, have the academic ability, skilled and proficient in the arts and culture in accordance with the demands of time and development of technology.

FACILITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Literature faculty class located in the University Warmadewa Third Floor of Unit II Building with a room capacity of 30 people each. Lecture hall was used for two shifts lectures activities, morning and afternoon.

Language laboratory space is used for lecturing listening, interpreting, test TOEIC, TOEFL test and other English language training such as speaking stabilization.
The library room is located next to the secretariat of the faculty and university libraries having size 544 m2 located on the first floor of the East campus of the University Warmadewa.

There are two Hall / Auditorium is located on the fourth floor of the building unit of the University Warmadewa II, each with a capacity of 250 people in the West, and 400 people in the east. This space is normally used for mass events such as seminars, stadium general, workshops, discussions and others.

Secretariat room Warmadewa University Faculty of Letters is a special room for administrative services and the other students. Student senate room/ Department Student Association (HMJ) is used as the secretariat for the students who gathered in the institution / student organizations.

Lecturer and Employees

Until now, the number of tenured faculty in the Faculty of Literature as many as 33 people, divided into 21 permanent lecturers foundations and 12 permanent lecturers helper Kopertis Wil.VIII Denpasar. While the number of employees who assist the smooth operation of the faculty are as many as 6 people.

Recruitment
Basically, admissions conducted simultaneously by several universities with established requirements contained in the information book Warmadewa university admission. Besides, using this general pattern, Faculty of Letters also apply for admission of new students through the selection achievement, such as those who get the champion race speech contest, story telling, debate in English language can be accepted directly into the new student of the Faculty of literature Unwar without having to take the test Selection acceptance Warmadewa new students. Similarly for students who excel in sports and arts. For civil servants / children PNS / Police / Armed Forces have the ease free registration fee and discount costs SDP by 50%. Students who excel in academics and sports / arts guaranteed a scholarship.

Quality Graduated

The average number of graduates per year depending on the number of new students entering (input), which ranges from 50-80% of the existing number of students with a range 2.75 GPA - 3.75 with 4 years average study duration . The number of graduates are expected to compete and seize job opportunities that exist and are available both in the government and private agencies in Bali, outside Bali and abroad. Graduates of the Faculty of literature Unwar expected to be workers who have the knowledge, professional, well-behaved and able to master the science and technology development leading to the era of globalization.
To produce qualified graduates and able to compete in the world of work, each student is required to attend the Faculty of Literature computer skills held by the Lembaga Pengembangan Teknonologi and Ketrampilan Khusus (LPTKK) University Warmadewa and follow work practice (on the job training) for 1 month in some companies and institutions related disciplines, such as hotels, restaurants, tourism agencies, travel agents, cruises, and teaching practices in several elementary schools and junior high for those who have interest in teaching. It is set in the Job Training program from faculty.

E. FACILITIES

Until now Warmadewa University Campus area is located at 24 Jalan Tanjung Terompong bungkak Denpasar with a land area of 5 ha consisting of:

-Building A: consists of a library, Sek Law Faculty, Lecture Room

-Building B: consisting of Rektoriat (with courtroom Sri Kesari Warmadewa Mandapa), the Secretariat of the Faculty of Economics, and lecture rooms

-Building C: Skill Laboratory consists of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK)).

-Building D: Building FKIK.

-Building E: consists of the Secretariat FKIK, Lecture Hall.

-Building F: FT consists of Studio, Theater Room, Clinic, Graduate Secretariat.

-Building G: Social and Political Sciences consists of the Secretariat, the Secretariat of the Faculty of Letters (FS), the Secretariat of the Faculty of Engineering (FT), Lecture Room.

-Building H: North Campus: Faculty of Agriculture consists of the Secretariat (FP), Lecture Room, Lab. FP (Greenhouses and pond fishing practices), Space Student Organizations (SEKOM, Unitas, Kormas), Space Unwar regiment, Polyclinic.

-Additional buildings consist of, Temple Campus, Wantilan, Temple Parks & Monument, Integrated Pos / Controller, Cooperative Employees, Cafeteria Wisuga, Cash Office BPD.

FREE INTERNET 24 HOURS

In improving the speed of access to information in the era of global acceptance, Unwar provides free 24-hour Internet-based Hotspot. This service is intended for lecturers, staff, and students. Free internet service is provided in Unwar Library and the Faculty, or Students just bring laptop, sitting under a tree landscaping the campus, the cafeteria, or a lecture hall it will easily be able to access the internet.

F. STUDENTS ACTIVITIES

A. Scholarship

Based on a sense of humanity and respect, Unwar provide scholarships to groups who can not afford, and the children of employees Warmadewa University. Taking into account that the socioeconomic conditions need to be supported. Academic achievement of students who have also received a scholarship. Types of scholarships provided Unwar include: BBM Scholarship, Scholarship PPA, PPE Scholarship, Scholarship Supersemar, Djarum Scholarship, Scholarship PLN, Bank BPD Bali Scholarship, Scholarship Foundation.

B. Extra Curricular Activities

Student organizations is a means of personal development of students toward broadening and increasing intelligence and personal integrity of students. Unwar is a student organization within the Secretary Sekom, Presedium Sekom, Esekutif Student Body (BEM) Faculty, Student Representative Body (BPM) Faculty.

As for the development of talents and interests are provided unit student activities such as: regiment, Marching Band, Tekwondo, KSR. PMI, Perkemi, Basketball, Choir, Football, PMHD (Pasemetonan Mahasisya Hindu Dharma), Dance and Tabuh, Mapala, Campus Theatre, Kopma, Badminton, Shield Defense, Kempo, and Scientific Reasoning, Table Tennis, Volley Ball, Tarung degrees, Choir.

The activities we did while we were in Bali, from the first day till we went back to Jakarta are as follow :

Positive Ideas Which Can Be Applied to STIBA IEC JAKARTA

Warmadewa University or commonly abbreviated as Unwar is one of the best private universities in Denpasar, Bali having high quality of education system, which its teaching and learning process are supported by the good facilities.

From this comparative study, there are some positive ideas which can be applied at STIBA IEC JAKARTA, such as ;

1. The right arrangement system of academicals program

2. The complete facilities for supporting teaching and learning activities such as language laboratory and complete library.

3. There is a special room for maintining the students ability independently.

4. The high quality lectures.

5. Activating foreign language club

CHAPTER IV
Personal Impression

I was pleased to visit and share information with students and lecturers at the University Warmadewa. I was impressed with its education vision and mission are to promote the qualified graduates, making Warmadewa university graduates are able to compete in a global society in accordance with its motto, "Affordable cost, Guaranted Quality".

CHAPTER V
Suggestion

I believe that this comparative study which has been held by STIBA IEC Jakarta can develop knowledge for its students and the education system of the school itself. There are some points to be remembered and prepared before the comparative study held, such as :

1. Choosing the high quality and reputable university. It is important because it will influence the results of comparative study.

2. Well organized activities. It is very important to make the effectiveness and efficiency of time.

3. Well coordinated committee. It is needed for the fluency of activities.

4. Taking care of reputation of the university.

CHAPTER VI
Conclusion

We have learnt and knew many things about Warmadewa University of Bali through this comparative study. The national achievement has approved that this university is one of the high quality and reputable university in Indonesia, as they have already got two prestigious awards from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and The Emerald Tri Hita Karana (THK) Award. The THK Emerald Award for the second time has been achieve by Unwar, in 2012 and 2011. Previously, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Unwar obtain the Gold Award THK. The second award was obtained after an assessment by a team of independent assessors.

We hope STIBA IEC Jakarta can get some lessons to be learnt about the education system as Unwar does. It is very important to improve the quality of students in receiving the teaching and learning process.
